Whitney Peckman is a master. She uses large, natural, hard shelled gourds and maintains their original shape and texture as she transforms them into high-end auction and gallery- worthy fine art pieces. The organic texture is supported by vibrant, rich colors.
"Will's Hostas" is a very fine example of Whitney's mastery of the medium. The delicate flowers at the top are hand carved, leaving attractive open spaces in the gourd shell. The painting is also all done by hand, with epoxy clay used sparingly for dimensional effect. The art is attached to its own wooden turntable.
The gourd is strikingly large and naturally shaped. It measure 15" high, 17" including the turntable. The width at the middle is also 15". The artist has signed the art and carved the title and date (2012) into the shell. The condition is excellent.

This piece was purchased directly from the artist in March 2014 at Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale AZ. Her retail prices for fine art gourds this size are in the 00-3500 range, with the detail work on this one putting it somewhere in the middle of the range.
