Vintage Modern Brazil Folk Art Pottery Ceramic Sculpture Bust Jose Verissimo 80s

Description

This delightful hand sculpted portrait bust of fired terracotta dates to the 1980's and measures 6 3/4" tall x 6" wide (ears) x 4 1/2" base and is fully signed and inscribed on the bottom (sgraffito), J Verissimo Garanhuns PE as pictured.  The work has warm, unglazed surface with highlights from decades of handling and the bottom shows some firing flaws (stable).  There are NO cracks, chips or losses or repairs.  Jose Verissimo (Brazil, b. 1953) has lived in or around Garanhuns for all of his life and is self taught.  His works are highly sought by collectors and earlier examples such as this seldom come to market.
