    Description

Two Exceptional and Rare Matching 19th-Century Life Size White Marble Statues "America" & "Europa".  Hand carved in White Marble in the 19th-Century in Europe, likely in France.  This pair of exceptional marble statues were purchased in Paris thru well known antique dealer, Rebuffel Antiques, San Francisco, CA in 2002 for ,000.00 and shipped to Seattle, WA.  Receipt available. "America" is a life size white marble statue inspired by the Greek goddess Artemis.  Artemis was the goddess of chastity, the moon, and the hunt. The Romans also worshipped her under the name of Diana, and she is usually represented in art with a bow and a quiver of arrows accompanied by an animal. "Europa" is a life size statue with a crown representing the influence of Goddess Tyche, or Fortuna, the Graeco-Roman personification of good luck and chance. Her well-delineated features, noble proportions reflect the Classical ideal of female beauty.  “Europa” is hand carved in white marble and is portrayed holding a cornucopia and looks out with gentle gaze. These works of art are well suited for outdoor or indoor display.  One venue for this art worthy of consideration is the placement of each statue at each end of an indoor gallery with the statues facing each other.  Another worthy placement could be outdoors on opposing ends of an outdoor walkway or garden path with the statues again facing each other. One statue was damaged in 2008 suffering a broken arm, but it was professionally restored and there is now no discernible visual evidence of the earlier damage. We're retired and now downsizing and want to find these exquisite works of art an appreciative home. Local pick-up or the Buyer may elect to have the statues crated and shipped at their expense.  No international orders and no orders that have a PO Box in their address!  No returns.
