This listing is for a fine Swiss hardwood carving of the Lion of Lucerne. This statue was carved in memory of the Swiss Guards that were killed trying to protect the French King during the French Revolution.It is carved from one piece of hardwood. This carving measures 9 1/4 inches or 21 cm by 2 3/4 inches or 7 cm and is 4 inches, 10 cm high. It has been carved from one piece of wood. In front of the lion is a legend in latin "Helvetiorum Fidei AC Virtuti" or Swiss Faith and Virtue. It is in excellent condition with excellent patina. Shipping in the United States is .50.
