DESCRIPTION:
Extraordinary and a one-of-a-kind
Latin American,
vintage, hand carved and hand painted wooden figurative sculpture,
called a
'Dancing Face Mask,'
from
Guerrero State,
Me
xi
co.
Incredibly, almost impossibly, it's carved from a single piece of wood. Featured is the image of a red-faced
Devil,
complete with authentic, real animal horns attached to each side of his forehead. On top of the
Devil's
image is a gray snake, which curls around the torso and head of the
Devil
and whose head comes to rest on top of the
Devil's
nose. To the image of the
Devil's
right and left are found two bearded mythological men, perhaps
Jesus
and
Moses,
each with a serpent or four-legged reptile perched on top of each man's heads and on top of each other, making a veritable totem of slithering, crawling cold-blooded reptiles, menacing and also seen as possibly protecting the figures upon which they rest. Exquisitely hand carved from a single piece of wood, the hand painting's 100% original and absolutely untouched. Pristine and in near museum quality condition. Absolutely beautiful. Exciting. Top shelf. Wow, wow and ...wow!
CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
