For sale is this PENGUIN SCULPTURE - Museum Replica by Alva Studios. The Penguin sculpture with its clean, subtle lines was crafted by Alva Studios New York. It is a licensed, copyrighted reproduction of a museum original, produced in 1978. It measures 5 inches tall x 3 inches wide. "Alva Museum Replicas reproductions were made through the use of special techniques developed by Alva studios and were hand finished to duplicate as closely as possible the exact shape, patina, color and texture of the original. The side of sculpture is signed, "(C) 78 ALVA". Sculpture is heavy in the hand. It is made of a weighty material, Alvastone, which resembles soapstone. Alvastone is a high-density casting material derived from gypsum, made with granite, marble or other stone combined with a catalyst which toughens the material to help make it long-lasting.  Alva Studios was operated by Alfred Wolkenberg, who was born in Vienna in 1911 and immigrated to the US in 1939. In 1948 he founded Alva Studios in Long Island City, NY, and commissioned artists and designers to produce licensed reproductions of sculpture and jewelry. All the pieces were marked, and sold at museums worldwide. Alva Museum Replicas were produced at Alva Studios from 1948 – 1990. Today these pieces are highly collectible. Condition is like new in excellent condition.
