virgin goddess of wisdom
Athena,
accompanied by her trusted
owl
perched on her shoulder, is seen commanding a horse drawn chariot. The sides of the highly stylized
Etruscan
battle horse, feature enigmatic archaic hieroglyphs that speak to the ancient, archaic time this ensemble was set in. The surfaces are hand decorated and bronzed, over the original cast bronze metal sculpture and sealed with matte lacquer. This was obviously done to prevent verdigris oxidation and tarnishing to inevitably form on the raw bronze metal surfaces. There are a few bright spots where previous handling and some very slight, minor scuffs have revealed the raw metal surfaces below the paint. It's signed by the production maker

As with many other mass produced Modernist works of decorative art and sculpture, its production was farmed out to to be realized less expensively in other countries, in this case

Great hand painted surfaces and classic
