Pardell Mixed Media Legends figurine.  The title of the piece is "American Horse Takes Its Name" and is Limited Edition # 240 to 950 pieces.  American Horse (Wasechun-tashunka) was an Oglala Sioux who lived from 1840-1908. Mounted on a black marble base which measures approximately 11.75 inches long by 7.5 inches wide.  The height of the sculpture (not including the base) is 7 inches, length of sculpture at the base is 9.5 inches.  Very good condition.  No issues found.  Please review the photos carefully as they are a very important part of the description and ask questions. Weight 18 lbs.
American Horse (Oglala Lakota: Wašíčuŋ Tȟašúŋke in Standard Lakota Orthography) (a/k/a "American Horse the Younger") (1840 – December 16, 1908) was an Oglala Lakota chief, statesman, educator and historian. American Horse is notable in American history as a U.S. Army Indian Scout and a progressive Oglala Lakota leader who promoted friendly associations with whites and education for his people. American Horse opposed Crazy Horse during the Great Sioux War of 1876–1877 and the Ghost Dance Movement of 1890, and was a Lakota delegate to Washington. American Horse was one of the first Wild Westers with Buffalo Bill's Wild West and a supporter of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. "His record as a councillor of his people and his policy in the new situation that confronted them was manly and consistent and he was known for his eloquence."
LEGENDS BRONZES WILL BECOME PRICELESS IN THE FUTURE. THE LEGENDS FOUNDERED PIECES MAY BE ONE OF THE LAST FOUNDERED MIXED METAL BRONZES EVER OFFERED. THECHILMARK FOUNDRY IS GONE, THE LEGENDS FOUNDRY IS GONE, MOST OF THE MONTANA FOUNDRYS ARE GONE, FEDERAL REGULATIONS, AND THE COST OF LABOR ARE MAKING IT TO HARD TO MAKE MONEY. THE LEGENDS PIECES WILL BE IN VERY SHORT SUPPLY IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS, WITH ALMOST NO PIECES ON THE MARKET LEAVING THE WESTERN ART MARKET WITH NO BRONZES. SOME ARE TRYING TO SELL PLASTIC, GLASS AND OTHER PIECES TODAY, BUT THE CHINA FACTORYS CAN MAKE THESE. THEY ARE NOT FOUNDERED MIXED METAL. MIXED METAL REQUIRES THE FOUNDRY TO FIRST FOUNDER THE PIECE, CHASE THE MOLDS, GRIND AND POLISH EDGES, THEN BACK TO HEATED FOUNDERING FOR GOLD, SILVER. AFTER THAT THEY HAVE TO CHASE AND POLISH. THE LAST STEP IS TO PAINT AND THEN HEAT THE PIECE AGAIN. THESE ARE WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, AND HARD TO MAKE. 100 YEARS FROM NOW THEY WILL BE THE REMINGTONS OF OUR TIME.
Please refer to the photos to satisfy yourself of the condition of this fabulous sculpture. Acquired from the original owner and displayed in a smoke free home.

    About Christopher Pardell:
Christopher Pardell began sculpting at the tender age of four, and by his teenage years, Pardell had come to the realization that sculpting was to become his life's work. Influenced by the work of renowned sculptors Russell, Remington and Rodin, Pardell wanted to pursue his passion for realism. His formal education was laid aside in favor of an apprentice moldmaker position with a commercial statuary company, and it was there that he received what he considers to be his "real education in art." As an apprentice to the Italian master artisans who ran the statuary, Christopher rapidly learned the skills that would enable him to excel as an artist and earn the stature that has come with his success. Never sketching his designs on paper, Christopher composes all of his work in three dimensions, in a maquette. This unique approach explains the unparalleled beauty and detail that are the trademarks of his work. Christopher's exceptional style and special talent have served to impress even the most discriminating collector. Currently, his artwork can be found in public and private collections throughout the world.
