Today we are pleased to offer for sale a rare and beautiful antique Mauger et Fils bisque porcelain statue!
This stunning piece is a creation of renowned French pottery firm Mauger et Fils, which was based in Paris at the end of the 19th century. The company is known for its ornate and intricate bisque porcelain statues and figures. This is one of the best (if not THE best) example we have seen. The statue is large and heavy (over 20lbs) and beautifully crafted and detailed. The piece is intricately made of French bisque porcelain classically known for its matte appearance and texture to the touch.
The statue depicts a beautiful young maiden. She has curled golden blond hair, with alabaster skin and rosy cheeks and large blue eyes. Her pensive face looks on as she holds a small bouquet of colorful flowers and an embroidered handkerchief. She wears a beautiful gown, with delicate painted floral sprays and elaborate blue/pink/gilt bodice. A dramatic floral mint green bow accentuates her slender neck. The train of her gown is equally impressive, and is trimmed with regal lavender and gilt floral border. A lavish gold bracelet adorns her left wrist.
She wears elegant heeled shoes with pretty lavender and gilt straps.
The young woman is regally seated on a large Languedoc pink marble column set on grassy ground on an oval base with sky blue and gilt border
. The piece is stamped on the bottom with the Mauger et Fils mark.
Statue presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. There is minimal surface wear and discoloration, and minor scuffing around base. Please notice there are a few small (and hard to notice) manufacturing flaws/fissures caused during firing in kiln: one flaw is inside skirt hem, the other is underneath a dress fold, and there is a small flaw on edge of column base. No chips or other cracks noted. Please review all photos before purchasing.
