1977 Western Artist Jim Miller Bronze Sculpture of Native American Indian Buffalo Hunter on Horseback "The History Maker"  10/20, 14" Tall, Signed by Artist.  This original bronze sculpture is in very good condition, the green felt on the bottom has a little bit of wear.  The bronze is signed on the rock ledge behind the horse: '77 Jim Miller 10/20 copyright "The History Maker".  The bronze sculpture & wood base measure 14" tall, 13 1/2" wide and 6" deep.  It weighs almost 16 pounds.  The bronze is on a rich wood base that is 2" high. On the front of the wood base there's a brass plaque that says "The History Maker by Jim Miller". The bronze is a realistic sculpture of a Native American Indian on horseback, probably buffalo hunting.  He's taking a pause with his horse on a high rocky cliff to take a look below. He's wearing a Buffalo horn headdress, moccasins, and a breechcloth. His belt holds bullets & a sheathed knife. Looped around the saddle is a feathered shield & around his wrist is a quirt.   It is very realistic with lots of details & gives you a glimpse into the life of a Plains Indian just before the buffalo disappeared.   It's an amazing bronze sculpture from the very talented artist, Jim Miller, that will please any Western art collector.  Who needs a Remington when you can have a Jim Miller bronze?
Jim Miller was born in 1924 in South Dakota, then his family moved to Missouri and later Oklahoma. Jim grew up in the Osage cattle country near Pawhuska & was inspired by the rough & tumble area as well as the Osage Indians.  He entered the Navy during World War ll after which he moved to Colorado to work in the coal mines, in timber & on ranches. While working, a tree fell on him & broke his back.  During his recuperation, he turned to leather working & painting. In the 1950's he went to an art show which featured bronze sculptures & his career as a sculptor began!  In 1973 he quit his job & began making his living in art. He believes each piece should tell a story. Jim's talent has resulted in hundreds of sculptures & paintings that have captured the heritage of the Southwest. His work provides enjoyment & memories that reach far beyond his art gallery located outside of Wilson, Oklahoma. This highly collectible bronze sculpture by the very talented artist, Jim Miller, which will make an important addition to any American Western Art collection.
